NIKE PROFITING FROM FOREIGN SALES

Nike Inc.'s profit jumped in the latest quarter as worldwide orders for its athletic footwear reached their highest point ever. Orders scheduled for delivery between September and January are up 32% to a record $2.3 billion. The Beaverton, Oregon-based company is also turning around in the overseas markets of Japan, Germany and France. Japanese sales were up in the latest quarter by 69%, while advance orders for France and Germany combined increased 34%. Overseas sales are important for Nike since its core U.S. market is expected to slow down.
