CHILDREN'S MUSEUM SET TO OPEN DOORS

The Children's Own Museum of Toronto will open its doors Dec. 6. The museum is geared to children aged two to eight. It will feature music, performances, creative play, water and other outdoor activities that will change with the seasons and the monthly programming. Other features include: The Big Tree, a place full of nooks and crannies for children to hide and crawl through; a garden where cloth fruits, vegetables and flowers can be planted and harvested; Main Street, which has a cafe needing staff and customers, a small house that can be made into a home and other small stores; Neighborhood Theatre, where performances can be created and performed; an art and junk workshop; a construction site; an attic; a quiet space full of books and a resource centre for parents to browse through books and other materials on parenting, early childhood education and learning through play. The two key partners in the COM are Kellogg Canada and IKEA Canada. The three-year agreements with each company will help maintain the museum, fund the creation of special exhibits and draw guest lecturers. Their names and logos will be on all materials produced by the museum and on the front of the building. COM will be promoted using transit ads created by psdesign of Toronto. PR is being handled by Media Profile of Toronto.
