NESTLE TO SELL LAURA SECORD UNIT
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Nestle Canada is getting out of the retail chocolatier and ice cream business. The company has put its Laura Secord business up for sale because it is no longer a part of Nestle's long term focus. Instead, it will focus on the manufacturing and marketing of value-added branded products. Advertising for Laura Secord is handled by MacLaren McCann of Toronto. Nestle acquired Laura Secord in Canada in 1988 when it purchased Rowntree Mackintosh in a worldwide acquisition. Nestle has hired Rhone Group LLC of New York to handle the sale of Laura Secord. Nestle is best known for such brands as Nescafe coffee, KitKat chocolate bars, Stouffer's frozen entrees, Friskies cat food, Drumstick ice cream and Carnation canned milk.
