PSINET GETS BIGGER IN CANADA
By Adnews Staff
PSINet Ltd. of Herndon, Virginia has expanded its Canadian presence. The Internet service provider has bought Interlog Internet Services Inc. of Toronto, adding over 50,000 customers to its portfolio, most of which are from the consumer market. The deal is expected to close early next month. Earlier this year, PSINet bought iSTAR Internet of Ottawa. In Canada, PSINet works under two marketing groups. One group is based in Ottawa and focuses on the consumer market. It operates under the iSTAR banner. The second group is based in Toronto and targets the business market. It operates under the PSINet brand name. For the time being, Interlog will operate as a stand-alone unit. Its too early to say what the long term plans for Interlog will be, PSINet vice-president Bryan Boyd told Adnews yesterday. Advertising for PSINet is created in-house. Direct Communications of Aurora, Ont. handles the media buying and direct mail portion of the business.
