TOURISM ON THE RISE IN B.C.
By Adnews Staff
Tourism in British Columbia has increased 11% so far this year when compared to the same period last year, according to a report from Tourism B.C. During the first five months of the year, more than 965,000 American visitors traveled to the province on an overnight trip, an increase of over 95,000 tourists from 1997. In May, American visits increased by 6.8% mainly because of the strong American dollar. Visitors from the United Kingdom has jumped 16%, but the number of tourists from the Asia Pacific region was down 7.5% because of the poor economy in the region. Tourism B.C. is responsible for marketing British Columbia as a visitor destination and increasing revenue and employment in the tourism industry in the province.
