WAL-MART MOVES ONTO ISLAND

Wal-Mart Canada of Mississauga, Ont. plans to open its first store in Prince Edward Island next spring. The outlet will be 105,000 square feet in size, and offer more than 70,000 products and specialty services including a pharmacy, a Tire & Lube Express Auto Centre and a one-hour photo lab. In addition, the store will also feature a portrait studio, optical, Maritime Marlin travel agency and a Magicuts hair salon. Wal-Mart has been in Atlantic Canada since 1994, operating seven stores in Nova Scotia, seven stores in Newfoundland and four stores in New Brunswick. Advertising for Wal-Mart is handled in-house, as well as by Publicis SMW of Toronto.
