FEW TAKERS IN JAPAN FOR INTERNET TV

Internet TV has flopped in Japan and caused electronics companies to stop producing the hardware for the service. Sharpe Corp. and Mitsubishi Electric Co. will stop marketing their Internet TV products once their inventories run out. Sanyo Electric Co. and NEC Home Electronics also plan to stop producing the products until they start seeing firm orders. Sanyo will end retail sales of the product in the fall and only produce enough units for the public sector and major organizations. Internet TV came on the Japanese market in late 1996. Companies are saying the main problems with Internet TV are rival formats, new software and complicated remote controls.
