DELL EXPANDS ENTERPRISE OFFERINGS

U.S.-based Dell Computer Corp. announced new enterprise-class computers and services this week in the North American market. The new computers are called PowerEdge 6300 server and the Workstation 610. Both machines are based on Intel Corp.'s Zeon processor. Another new product from Dell is the PowerVault 650 enterprise storage product, which is Dell's first entry into the Microsoft Windows NT portion of the fibre channel disk storage subsystem market. In addition, Dell has three new support services for large businesses and government agencies: the Dell Certified Systems Engineer program, the DellPlus for Servers program and the server installation program. The Certified Systems Engineer program helps ensure that third-party technicians supporting Dell customers have the skills to support complex networks. The DellPlus program enables customers to have custom software installed on Dell PowerEdge servers as part of the company's build-to-customer order manufacturing process. The server installation program helps ensure the integration and optimal performance of PowerEdge servers within complex, multi-vendor, enterprise environments. This service will be available in Canada in the fall. In Canada, the new products and services will be promoted using national print advertising created by Sharpe Blackmore Inc. of Toronto. Strategic Ampersand of Toronto will handle Canadian PR.
