SINGAPORE AD SPEND ON THE RISE

Telecommunications companies in Singapore are the leading advertisers in the country, according to research done by ACNielsen Singapore. Telecommunications companies have posted a 67% increase in ad spending during the first quarter of 1998, rising from fourth position to first. Other sectors showing growth included banking/finance and travel, with both showing a 16% increase in ad spending, while cosmetics, skin care and toiletries each had a 23% jump. Other industries, however, are spending less on advertising. Real estate companies are spending 35% less than last year and retail expenditures have dropped 20%. Overall, advertising expenditures in Singapore grew by 0.4% during the quarter. Spending on TV and outdoor media has increased while newspaper and radio spending have decreased.
