By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Sun Media Corp. is buying the Brockville Recorder and Times, a daily newspaper in Ontario that has a circulation of 15,000. The deal is expected to close in late July. The roots of the Recorder and Times began in 1821 when the newspaper was founded by Chauncey Beach, a printer from the U.S. For the past 108 years, it has been owned by the family of the late Senator George Graham. Graham was the great grandfather of the current owners and co-publishers, Hunter Grant and Perry Beverly. Sun Media publishes five daily newspapers in Canada: The Toronto Sun, The Edmonton Sun, The Calgary Sun, The Ottawa Sun and The London Free Press, as well as The Financial Post, which is 80% owned by Sun Media. In addition, the company's newspaper group publishes five daily community newspapers, 96 weekly community newspapers, shopping guides in Canada and in Florida, as well as 17 farming and other specialty publications.
