COMPAQ SWITCHES AD AGENCIES

Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston has broken up its account, giving the worldwide creative portion of the business to DDB Needham Worldwide of New York. The incumbent, Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of New York, will continue to handle the media portion of the account around the world. The move means Palmer Jarvis DDB of Toronto will handle the Canadian portion of the creative account. DDB Needham is the agency for Digital Equipment Corp. of Massachusetts. Compaq is buying Digital and the deal is expected to close later this month. When Compaq announced the purchase earlier this year, it decided to put the account in review. Ammirati & Puris and DDB were the only agencies competing.
