MTS ENTERS HOME SECURITY BUSINESS

Manitoba Telecom Services is moving into the home security business and hasn't decided yet how advertising will be handled for the new interest, public affairs coordinator Therese Mickelson told Adnews yesterday. The company has bought AAA Alarm of Winnipeg, which specializes in security installation and monitoring to residential and small business customers in Manitoba and Alberta. AAA Alarm operates under three separate companies: AAA Alarm Systems Ltd., Calgary Security Products Ltd. and 592485 Alberta Ltd. "The acquisition of AAA Alarm is consistent with our 1998 business objectives to enter new areas of business and expand aggressively within and beyond Manitoba's borders," MTS president and COO Bill Baines says in a release. MTS is a phone company that also provides wireless, directory and multimedia telecommunications services. Advertising for MTS is created by Palmer Jarvis DDB of Toronto.
