INSURANCE COVERS UNEXPECTED MEDICAL COSTS

Liberty Health of Markham, Ont. introduced a new insurance plan this week that will cover consumers in the event of a health crisis. Called Catastrophic Coverage, the plan can be purchased as part of Liberty's flexCARE supplementary insurance plans or as a stand alone option. Under the plan, once the customers' deductible has been reached, Catastrophic Coverage provides unlimited prescription drug coverage, plus an additional $25,000 annually in other coverage for such services as home care and private nursing. Other services in the plan include DrugCheck, which is a computerized service for pharmacists to help safeguard customers from potentially harmful interactions with other prescription drugs they may be taking and Careline, a 24-hour, toll-free health information service. In addition, Catastrophic Coverage adjusts to the special health priorities of people 65 years-of-age and older and provides coverage against damage to eyeglasses purchased under the company's vision care plan. The insurance also covers expectant mothers and their newborn infants. Liberty Health will promote Catastrophic coverage using radio and print ads created by Grey Direct of Toronto.
