WAL-MART MOVES INTO PRIVATE LABEL MARKET

Wal-Mart Canada Inc. of Mississauga, Ont. launched a private line of home fashions this week that focuses on products for the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Called Select Edition, the line will feature sheet sets, comforters, blankets, bedskirts, pillows, pillowcases, mattress pads, towels, bathroom rugs, show curtain liners, as well as bathroom and kitchen accessories. Wal-Mart plans to introduce its Select Edition line of home fashions for the living and dining rooms later this year. Select Edition merchandise will be available in three sub-labels and price points: The White label is the low-end line. The Blue line is the middle of the road and provides more styles and a larger selection than the White label. The Gold label is the premium line. Select Edition will be promoted using flyers, in-store signs and PR done in-house.
