NINTENDO SCORES POINTS WITH SPORTS FANS

Japan-based Nintendo Co. is targeting North American sports enthusiasts with its latest line of video games. Called Nintendo Sports, the games can be used with the Nintendo 64 game system. The first game available is called the 1080 Degree Snowboarding, which hit the market earlier this month. The second game, Kobe Bryant in NBA Courtside, will be on store shelves at the end of the month. The third game in the line will be Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr. It is scheduled for release on May 25. Nintendo plans to launch 25 sports games this year. In Canada, the company will promote the games using TV and print advertising, as well as sampling and point-of-sale materials. The campaign will be created by Leo Burnett Co. of Chicago, while its Toronto office will localize the ads and handle media buying. GCI Group of Toronto is doing Canadian PR.
