ALZA TO TAKE OVER DITROPAN MARKETING

ALZA Corp. of Palo Alto, California has acquired the rights to market Hoechst Marion Roussel's Ditropan prescription drug in Canada. The agreement is effective this week. Ditropan is used in the treatment of urge urinary incontinence, a disorder characterized by sudden, involuntary bladder contractions which lead to the loss of bladder control. It was first introduced in Canada in 1981. Advertising for Ditropan will be handled by Carre Rouge of Montreal. Until now, Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals Canada has been marketing the drug in Canada. P&G is now focusing on cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health, as well as anti-infective therapies. Hoechst Marion's world headquarters is in Frankfurt, Germany, while its Canadian subsidiary is located in Laval, Que. ALZA's Canadian office is in Markham, Ont.
