MC GROUP RACKS UP NEW ACCOUNT WINS

The MC Group of Companies of London, Ont. has won a slew of new business. The company's heathcare agency, MC HealthCare Group has picked up three new assignments: Alcon Canada of Mississauga, Ont., Lawson Research Institute of London, Ont. and another drug from Hoffman-LaRoche of Mississauga.

Alcon is a vision care company that manufactures optical equipment as well as contact lenses and solution. MC HealthCare won the business last month to develop a corporate image campaign for Alcon. The agency was given the account after Alcon saw ads the agency was running in medical magazines to promote itself. A campaign will begin in

Lawson Research is a clinical research facility specializing in long-term cures for genetic diseases such as diabetes. MC HealthCare won the business after a competition with two other agencies. MC HealthCare will initially handle stakeholder PR and develop a corporate identity for the organization. By the end of the year, it will create a fundraising campaign. Until now, Lawson Research handled its advertising using several freelancers, but decided to hire an agency to give it a more consistent image, MC Group president John Besterd told Adnews yesterday.

Hoffmann-LaRoche recently hired MC HealthCare as well as the firm's direct marketing unit, MC Direct of Toronto, to handle the direct response portion of a campaign for a cardiovascular drug that reduces blood pressure. The agency won the business without a review. It already handles advertising for an acne medication marketed by Hoffmann-LaRoche. Remtulla & Associates of Toronto handles all other advertising for the cardiovascular drug.

The MC Group has also won some U.S. business. Its direct marketing division will create a campaign for Pacific Bell that will include outbound telemarketing, direct mail, newspaper and free-standing-inserts. In addition, MC Group's Retail unit was chosen to handle advertising for Bell Atlantic Mobile to launch two new wireless data products through the company's 141 retail stores.
