MEXICO TO GET STRICT ON OUTDOOR ADS
By Adnews Staff
Mexico City is cracking down on outdoor advertising. The new city government that was elected last December has signed agreements with two major outdoor ad associations to identify the owner of outdoor ad space. This is currently a requirement, but it is seldom enforced. The two associations are The Outdoor Publicists Association and the Mexican Association of Outdoor Advertising. Some estimate that 50% of outdoor boards in the city do not name the owner of the ad space. About 4,500 outdoor boards are located within the city limits and about 10,000 in the metropolitan area. According to a university study, roughly 85% of all billboards violate a city rule such as size and distance from other signs.
