CANADIAN TIRE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

Toronto-based Canadian Tire launched the online version of its flyer last September, and has since signed up over 55,000 consumers as subscribers. According to the retailer, it has attracted more than 5% of the estimated one million Canadians with Internet access and e-mail capabilities. This is six months ahead of its one-year target. An average of 350 new subscribers are signing up each day through Canadian Tire's Web site. Some come from as far away as China, Britain and the U.S. Consumers can have the online flyer tailored so they receive only information on items that interest them. The flyer is sent to subscribers' e-mail address each week. Canadian Tire plans to improve the flyer to provide subscribers with more product information such as warranties and assembly.
