CANON TO OFFER MINI-CAMCORDER

U.S.-based Canon Inc. will introduce a new ultra-compact digital video camcorder to the North American market in April. Called Canon ZR, the camera can fit into a waist pack, glove compartment, hand bag or briefcase. It weighs just over one pound. The ZR comes with two recording modes: movie mode and photo mode. Movie mode shoots full-motion video. Photo mode is for taking digital still shots. It records a single image for about six seconds to tape with audio, so the user can record a voice annotation to accompany the photo recording. Other features of the Canon ZR include an 11X optical zoom lens, built in lens cover, standby switch, image stabilization, programmed auto exposure, 2.5-inch LCD screen, 12 bit and 16 bit digital stereo sound and manual controls. In Canada, the camcorder will be promoted using magazines and some newspaper ads. The campaign will be created by Lackey Communications of Toronto.
