COMPANIES OFFER EDUCATION PRIZES

Two consumer products companies are trying to help Canadian parents save money for their kids' education. The two companies are U.S.-based Kimberley-Clark and Dare Foods of Kitchener, Ont. Both are using contests where winners will receive Registered Education Saving Plans. Kimberley-Clark will offer a grand prize of an RESP with a potential value of $100,000, plus 10 RESP scholarships with a potential value of $10,000 each. In addition, consumers can receive a $3 rebate on purchasing Huggies diapers during the contest period. The contest begins next month. It is open to parents with children aged four and under. The contest will be promoted using point-of-purchase materials created in-house.

Under the Dare contest, the company will give away 12 one-unit RESPs, with each unit having the potential value of $10,000. The contest will be promoted using point-of-purchase materials for Dare jelly beans, Jubes, chocolate mints and Gummies. The in-store materials were created by Reactor Art & Design of Toronto. Multivision Publishing of Toronto coordinated the printing of the materials.

For both contests, Learn Direct Communications of Toronto provided the concept and will also handle the fulfillment services. The RESPs will be provided by the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation.
