TRAVEL CD COMPANY MAY SEEK AGENCY

Toronto-based Planetware introduced two new travel CD-ROMs late last year to the Canadian market and may look for an ad agency to help promote them, company president and publisher Jim Steinhart told Adnews yesterday. Currently, the CD-ROMs are being promoted using magazine and catalogue ads created in-house. "We are open to an ad agency," Steinhart said. "We are looking for someone with connections in the travel industry." In addition, Planetware is looking for marketing partners, such as airlines and credit card companies, to co-market the card. Planetware may also begin selling ad space on the CD-ROMs. The two CD-ROMs are called the Northern Europe Travel Planner and a Mediterranean title. The Northern Europe CD-ROM covers 40,000 sites and annual events in 21 major countries including the European Community, as well as some African countries bordering the Mediterranean. Users can identify sites by using maps, keywords, pulling up one of 140 special interest categories or by watching slide shows. Users can also print out their trip agenda once they've pinpointed what they want to visit during their trip. Other features include 10,000 tourist board and site addresses, a currency converter, a perpetual calendar with holidays for all features and English-speaking countries until the year 2020, plus tips on saving for the budget traveler.
