DURACELL SWITCHES AGENCIES

Duracell Inc.'s North Atlantic Group of Bethel, Connecticut handed the creative portion of its account to BBDO Worldwide of New York this week. The North Atlantic Group covers the U.S., Canada and fourteen countries within Western Europe. Duracell is owned by The Gillette Co. in the U.S. BBDO won the business without a review. It already handles advertising for Gillette's North Atlantic Group. The fifteen-year incumbent on the business is Ogilvy & Mather of New York. Duracell decided to move the creative portion of the account to BBDO because it had already moved the media business to BBDO last year and wanted to consolidate the entire account. O&M will continue to handle advertising for Gillette International, which markets Duracell batteries in the Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe and other international markets. In Canada, BBDO's Toronto office will likely handle Canadian media buying for the business but exact responsibilities haven't been worked out yet, U.S. communications director Jill Fallon told Adnews yesterday. Until now, O&M's Toronto office handled some of the Canadian advertising for Duracell.
