ADVERTISING GOES TO THE TOILET

A consortium of companies have won a 20-year contract to supply street furniture to the city of Sydney, Australia including public toilets, bus shelters, street kiosks, bins and bike racks. Under the deal, the companies will provide the furniture for free and then sell advertising on them. In addition, the companies will give the city of Sydney $1 million worth of free global advertising publicizing the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. The consortium estimates that the agreement will raise about $200 million(US) in advertising revenue over the life of the contract.
