WIRELESS WAR COULD HEAT UP
By Adnews Staff
Canada's four wireless phone companies could be facing more competition after a ruling last week allowing the resale of cellular and personal communications services. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has ruled that the country's wireless operators can sell their service to other companies, who can then resell them. However, the CRTC did not force the companies to offer their service to resellers at a large discount. Although the practice would see more competition for the companies, attracting resellers will give them more customers and save them marketing costs. The four wireless companies are: Clearnet Communications of Pickering, Ont., Rogers Cantel Mobile Communications and BCE Mobile Communications, both of Toronto, as well as Microcell Telecommunications of Montreal.
