OSHAWA FOODS REINTRODUCES IGA
By Adnews Staff
The Oshawa Food Group will open a new grocery store later this week that the company says will offer fun in food shopping. Located in Mississauga, Ont., the new store is called IGA Marketplace. It features a scratch bakery with a hearthoven that bakes all day, a large fresh fish department that cooks samples for taste-testing and offers preparation advice and a whole prepared meal department with over 90 entrees and side dishes, ready for immediate consumption. Some are chilled, suitable for microwaving and others are hot. All items can be sampled before purchase. Items such as lobster and pizza will be prepared and cooked at no extra charge. Carry-out services include customer rain umbrellas and windshield snow removal. The new store is being promoted using flyers created in-house. The Oshawa Group plans to open more outlets using the same retail concept across Canada, but hasn't decided exactly how many it will have. There are 700 IGA stores across the country, but not all of them would be suitable for this retail concept, public affairs vice-president Tim Carter told Adnews yesterday.
