CANADIANS NEED CELL PHONES, SURVEY SAYS

Almost 50% of Canada's business professionals say they can't live without their wireless phone when they travel, and of the business people who don't have a wireless phone, 60% wish they did, according to a study done by COMPAS Inc. of Toronto. Albertans are most likely to take their wireless phone along when they travel and one-quarter of wireless users rated a cellular or digital PCS phone as the top business tool for new companies. When business professionals are away from the office for just one day, a majority of them rely on their wireless phone to stay in touch. Men are more likely than women to use their cellular or digital PCS phone or a pager on a day away from the office, while women rely on ordinary landline phones or voice mail. The survey results also showed that close to one-in-two business professionals said they have seen a marked increase in sales and productivity because of their wireless telephone. The survey was commissioned by Rogers Cantel of Toronto. COMPAS interviewed 1,000 Canadians, 18 years-of-age and older who were self-employed, employed full-time or part-time as managers, supervisors, professionals, technical or skilled trades people, or in sales or service.
