IMPERIAL OIL OFFERS ADDITIONAL OLYMPIC PROMOTION

Imperial Oil of Toronto expanded its Olympic promotion this week with the launch of its Olympic Hockey Heroes collection booklet available at its Esso gas stations. The book contains player profiles on Olympic hockey teams in Canada, the U.S., Russia, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and Women's Team Canada. Ten new profiles will be available each week throughout the six week promotion. A binder to carry the profiles is available for free with the first purchase of profiles. In addition, each page features player statistics and opinion from CBC's Ron MacLean. Of the 30,000 million pages printed, 10,000 will be personally signed by Canadian Olympic hockey players. Three packs will contain instant win trips for two to the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, including tickets to hockey games. The booklet is being promoted using TV ads and point-of-purchase materials. Goodgoll Curtis of Toronto created the ads for English Canada, while Communications bleu blanc rouge of Montreal did the ads for Quebec. Marshall Fenn Communications of Toronto is doing PR. This is the second phase of Imperial Oil's Olympic promotions. The company launched a sweepstakes in October, giving away 10 trips for two to the 1998 Games last month. The contest is still running, with Dodge Durangos and 500 Roots warm-up jackets being the remaining prizes.
