NOVARTIS LAUNCHES ANTI-HYPERTENSIVE DRUG

Montreal-based Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc. introduced a new prescription drug this week that combats high blood pressure and has few side effects. Called Diovan, the medication is used for the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension. Taken once-a-day, Diovan should be used for patients in which treatment with a diuretic or beta-blocker has been unsuccessful, or have had a lot of side effects. The drug is being promoted using ads in medical journals. The ads were created by Lally, McFarland & Pantello of Montreal. Edelman Canada of Toronto is handling PR. The agency won the PR portion of the account last summer after a competition with Optimum Public Relations and Gervais, Gagnon, Covington, both of Montreal.
