CLARIS DROPS SIX SOFTWARE TITLES

California-based Claris Corp. will retire six software titles, including some of the original Macintosh titles, beginning Jan. 1 because of dwindling sales. The programs affected are MacPaint, MacWrite II, MacWrite Pro, MacProject Pro, Easy Business Cards and Claris OfficeMail. Claris will continue to provide technical support for these programs until the end of 1998. Sales of these programs have slowed down, while sales of the ClarisWorks 5.0 software suite have been increasing. North American customers who purchase the discontinued titles will be able to purchase ClarisWorks 5.0 at a special upgrade price. Claris has published information about the retirement of the titles on its Web site. It also has other information such as lists of other poject management and electronic mail server software vendors for users of its MacProject Pro and Claris OfficeMail software. In Canada, the upgrade deal and the announcement of the retirement of the titles is being promoted using PR done by Atkins & Ellis of Toronto.
