COMPAQ ENHANCES ARMADA LINE UP

U.S.-based Compaq Computer Corp. has added three new Armada notebook computers to its line up in North America. The machines are called the 7790DMT, the 7370DMT and 7360DMT. The 7790DMT features a 13.3-inch color display, a 233 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology and a five gigabyte hard drive. The 7370 and 7360 have either 200 or 233 MHz Pentium processors with MMX technology, three or four gigabyte hard drives and 12.1-inch color displays. In Canada, the machines will be promoted using airport billboards. The ads will be created by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of Toronto. TV and print advertising began this month. It was created by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of New York. The agency's Toronto office localized the ads and did the Canadian media buy.
Separately, Compaq will launch a new handheld computer in North America next March. Called the Compaq C-Series PC Companion, it will be geared to the corporate market and professionals in small to medium-sized businesses. The PC Companion will feature a modem for access to e-mail and the Internet. The monochrome display supports 640 X 240 pixels resolution. For data entry, the mini-mahcine features an integrated microphone and voice recording capability.
