PETCETERA OPENS FIRST STORE

Petcetera Warehouse Inc. of Vancouver will open its first pet superstore next week and plans to have a total of 23 outlets in Western Canada by the year 2000. Most stores will be concentrated in B.C. and Alberta. The first outlet is 26,000 square feet in size and features more than 16,000 pet products and in-store pet services ranging from veterinary services, grooming, photography and licensing. Instead of selling companion animals, Petcetera has partnered with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to promote an adoption centre. In addition, the company has set up the Petcetera Animal Welfare Society, which will promote wellness, education and spay and neuter programs. The first store is being supported with transit shelter, radio, newspaper and on-site billboard ads. Direct mail is also being used. The campaign was created by Palmer Jarvis Advertising of Toronto.
