BROADCAST INDUSTRY PROFIT

The Canadian broadcasting industry made a profit of $7.1 million overall in 1994, according to Statistics Canada. Revenue for private radio and television stations rose to $2.25 billion, from $2.21 billion a year earlier. When the cost of running the CBC is thrown in, the industry's operating loss is close to $1.07 billion. Private television stations reported revenue of $1.49 billion, up from $1.46 billion in 1993. The final profit was $38.4 million, compared to $58.5 million a year earlier. Revenues for private radio stations climbed to $765.8 million from $741.1 million. Their net loss was $31.3 million, compared to $48.2 million in 1993.
