HISTORY TV USES HISTORICAL EVENTS TO PROMOTE NEW STATION

Toronto-based Alliance Broadcasting will launch the radio portion of its national campaign for History Television in Vancouver and Toronto next week. TV ads began this week, while outdoor ads began in Toronto last week and will roll out nationally in October. The campaign was developed by Harrod & Mirlin of Toronto and in-house by Alliance. The radio and TV ads focus on historical figures and events, telling the stories behind them. The outdoor ads feature headlines from well-known historical events. Headlines used include: "U.S. Declares War On Canada," "Leafs Win the Cup," "Disco Sweeps The Nation," and "Stock Market Crashes." Rogers Cablesystems of Toronto and Vision.com of Ottawa, a consortium of cable operators, are also running ads for the specialty channels. History Television is one of 16 specialty channels launching on Oct. 17.
