IBM ADDS NEW APTIVAS TO ITS LINE UP

U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. launched a new series of Aptiva computers to the North American market this week, and plans to introduce two other families in October. The machines available this week are called the Aptiva E series. The low-end computers are targeted to consumers buying their first PC or a second family PC, as well as to those wanting to work at home. The Aptiva L family features a 300 MHz Pentium II, DVD-ROM II drives and arcade-like 3D graphics. The S series features Aptiva's split system design, DVD-ROM II drives and Intel II processors. The system also includes a suite of Internet applications featuring voice-enabled Netscape Navigator. In Canada, the computers will be promoted using a national print campaign and radio ads in major cities. The campaign will be created by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto.
