BUCKLEY CHOOSES SMW
By Adnews Staff
SMW Advertising of Toronto will be helping Canadians battle colds this winter. The agency was handed the W.K. Buckley of Mississauga, Ont. account earlier this month after a competition with two other agencies. SMW was chosen because of its pharmaceutical experience, marketing manager Jennifer Meehan told Adnews last week. Even though W.K. Buckley isn't a pharmaceutical company, the firm thought the agency's experience was important because of the changes in how ads are now approved she said. The Advertising Standards Council approves ads. SMW will launch a TV campaign for Buckley late next month. The incumbent on the business is Bensimon*Byrne of Toronto. It resigned from the business earlier this year when it was bought by D'Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles of Toronto because of a conflict. DMB&B handles advertising for Procter & Gamble's Vick's cough drops. Buckley makes cough syrup and muscle rub. For several years it has been promoting its cough syrup as the one that tastes bad but works.
