BELAIRDIRECT PROCEEDS WITH GIFT PROMOTION
By Adnews Staff
BELAIRdirect of Toronto relaunched its promotion this week that offers new customers a free anti-theft car alarm when they buy auto insurance from the company. The promotion was originally launched in early August, but the Ontario Insurance Commission questioned the deal because it felt the promotion acted as an inducement for people to buy insurance, regional manager and vice-president Robert Kan told Adnews this week. The insurance act prohibits insurance companies from inducing consumers to buy insurance so they don't purchase insurance they don't need. BELAIRdirect says the promotion is a risk management program to reduce the risk of cars being stolen. The company also changed its radio ads to ensure people know they have to be a customer before they can receive the car alarm. The ads were created by Blitz Direct's Toronto and Montreal offices.
