VCBN PARTNERS THE RADIO WITH THE INTERNET
By Adnews Staff
Virtually Canadian Broadcast Network of Toronto has combined radio with the Internet. The company recently launched its Internet radio service where users can work on their computer and listen to the radio at the same time. To do so, users go to the company's Web site, or one of VCBN's areas on other Web sites, and click on to the channel they want to listen to. They can then leave the site and listen to the radio programming while doing other tasks with their computers. Advertisers can buy audio time on VCBN. The company has various music programming and talk shows on its channel, and also broadcasts programming from regular radio stations. With the use of satellite technology, different commercials are inserted into the Internet version of the program. VCBN president John Walters told Adnews the advantage to advertisers is that they don't have to buy multiple stations to get their message out across Canada or in the U.S. In addition, VCBN can track listeners to tell advertisers how long people are listening and what part of the country they are in. VCBN carries a wide range of music including classical, jazz, blues and heavy metal. Music magazines will provide shows, and specialty programs include video game reviews and wrestling shows. Other shows include Live in Toronto with 102.1 The Edge in Toronto and the Sunday Night Sex Show with Q107, also in Toronto.
