CANON RELEASES NEW CAMCORDERS

U.S.-based Canon Inc. introduced three new camcorders to the North American market this week that feature three-inch LCD View Screens. The models are called the ES20V, ES10V and ES4000. The ES20V features an LCD screen to accommodate a range of shooting positions and allows users to simultaneously watch their recordings on screen. They can also playback their recordings with sound without a TV. The ES20V uses a 16X optical zoom lens that moves from wide angle to telephoto in just over three seconds. Other features include hi-fi stereo, backlight compensation, five exposure programs and a quick record mechanism. The ES10V is a low-end model with an LCD screen and similar features to the ES20V. The ES4000 has an LCD screen and a 22X optical zoom lens. The digital zooming feature brings the camcorder's telephoto range up to 44X. The ES4000 also features five exposure programs, color viewfinder, hi-fi stereo and manual control. It weighs just over one pound without the battery. In Canada, Canon will promote the camcorders using newspaper ads beginning in late October. The ads will be created by Lackey Communications of Toronto.
