NINTENDO TURNS JAMES BOND MOVIE INTO VIDEO GAME

Nintendo Co. of Japan launched a new video game in North America late last month that the company says offers the same action as a James Bond movie. Called GoldenEye 007, the game is designed for the Nintendo 64 video game system. It is a first person perspective game that allows up to four people to play simultaneously within 12 interactive 3-D environments. GoldenEye 007 is compatible with the N64 Rumble Pak, which is a virtual feedback device that lets the player feel every shot they take. In Canada, GoldenEye 007 is being promoted using national TV and print ads, as well as point-of-purchase materials created by Leo Burnett USA of Chicago. The agency's Toronto office adapted the ads for use in Quebec and did the Canadian media buy. In addition, Nintendo is running two promotional offers with Blockbuster Video. With the rental of a N64 system from Blockbuster, customers will receive a free GoldenEye 007 video game rental. Under the second promotion, customers who rent a GoldenEye 007 game will receive a $5 mail-in rebate towards the purchase of a GoldenEye game.
