DYLEX LOOKING TO EXPAND

Dylex Ltd. of Toronto surprised the business world this week with a $106 million bid for Mark's Work Wearhouse of Calgary. Dylex emerged from bankruptcy protection in 1995, but feels now the debt-free company is strong enough to begin to expand. Dylex has 640 stores operating under the BiWay, Fairweather, Tip Top Tailors, Braemar and Thrifty's banners. Mark's caters mainly to men, with stores located mainly in strip malls near big box retailers. Advertising for Mark's is done by Watermark Advertising of Calgary and Mediavation of Montreal. Dylex has different agencies for each chain.
