SANCTUARY WOODS TO OFFER LANGUAGE SKILLS CD-ROM
By Adnews Staff
Sanctuary Woods/Theatrix Interactive of San Mateo, California will introduce an educational CD-ROM next month designed to help children with basic language skills such as vocabulary, word construction and comprehension. Called Word Heads, the program is geared to children aged 10 to 14 and has six channels of play: Get a Head, Go Figure, The News Channel, Meet Your Match, Go Shopping and the Preview Channel. Go Figure helps users enhance their ability to decipher alternative meanings in words and phrases. On the News Channel, kids create stories by inserting nouns, adjectives, verbs and idioms into story templates. When the news is played back, kids learn the importance of context. Meet your Match is a game show designed to enhance kids' vocabulary skills by building words from different prefixes, suffixes and roots to match given definitions. On the Go Shopping Channel, kids can use points they've earned in other areas to buy a variety of do-it-yourself projects, tricks and word games related to games in the program. They can also purchase content to expand Word Heads. The Preview Channel serves as a menu for all the channels, as well as a place to see previews of different channels, commercials and bloopers. In Canada, advertising plans for Word Heads is still in the planning stages. It will be handled in-house by Sanctuary Woods. S&S Public Relations of Chicago will do North American PR.
