BEIJING COMBATS FREE AD SPACE
By Adnews Staff
Beijing has found a way to try to make more money and discourage advertisers from placing poster ads on non-designated advertising spots such as bus stops electricity poles and buildings. The city has erected billboards in these spots where space is sold at a lower than usual cost for those small businesses who can't afford more conventional media. So far, over 500 ads have been placed for over 200 clients, at a cost of 36 cents(US) a day. Currently, the 1.5 X 2 metre billboards are in the Haidian District of the Chinese capital, but if the move is successful, ad space will be available across the city.
