CHAPTERS EXPANDS AGAIN
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Chapters Inc. will open its 16th bookstore next week. The store is located in Guelph, Ont, is 21,000 square-feet in size and features more than 100,000 titles. There is also a multimedia section, writing instruments, audio books, CD-ROMs and a Starbucks cafe. Sofas and chairs have been placed throughout the store to encourage browsers to stay as long as they want. The children's section is a store within a store, featuring its own CD-ROM terminals, colorful kid-sized seating and a five-foot tall edition of Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham. The store will also host various events such as children's readings. Newspaper advertising supports the opening of the store. It was created by Bondo & Remer of Seattle. Event advertising for Chapters is handled in-house. Chapters was created in 1995 by the merger of Coles and SmithBooks. It also operates the World's Biggest Book Store and 340 mall-based bookstores operating under the Coles, SmithBooks and The Book Company banners.
