NEW CHIEF AT CANWEST

Winnipeg-based CanWest Global Communications president and CEO Izzy Asper is stepping down and handing the reins over to long-time CanWest executive Peter Viner. Asper will remain as executive chairman and controlling shareholder of the company. Viner first joined CanWest in 1974. He recently returned to its Canadian headquarters after working at the broadcaster's Australian TV station, Network Ten.
