SYNDEY TO COMBAT AMBUSH OLYMPIC ADVERTISING

The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games organizing committee has called for tenders from ad agencies to come up with a plan to protect official sponsors from the type of ambush advertising that occurred at the Atlanta Games last year. The biggest concerns are the promotions at locations close to an Olympic venue, such as when Nike, who was not an official sponsor, opened a large complex next to the main Atlanta stadium. In Sydney, ambush advertising will be hard to control because many events will be held away from the main stadium complex.
