U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. will add three new multimedia CD-ROM software titles and its World Book 1998 Multimedia Encyclpedia Deluxe Edition to the North American market this fall. The Crayola Magic Wardrobe CD-ROM is for girls aged six through 12. In the program, users travel back in time through a wardrobe with 12 magical drawers. Each drawer offers a passage to a different historical time period filled with authentic clothing for children to color, decorate and dress on a paper doll. In addition, each time period features several creative activities designed to help children learn more about what it was like to live in that era. The Crayola Kids Adventures Color a Story in 3D CD-ROM combines coloring with storytelling. Geared to children aged six to 10, users can create three-dimensional images based upon great adventure stories including 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Trojan Horse and Gulliver's Travels. An Extensions to Learning Guide is included on the CD-ROM to promote children's creativity and literacy learning. The Crayola Print Factory lets users create items such as awards, banners, bookmarks, cards, posters, stationery and stickers. There is also a variety of 3D ornament and decoration activities. It is targeted to children aged five to 10. World Book 1998 is the latest version of IBM's CD-ROM encyclopedia. The key new feature on the 1998 version is the study and tool kit to help students prepare reports including outlines, note cards, presentation visuals, historical timelines and bibliographies. In Canada, advertising plans for the CD-ROMs have not been finalized. Heavy retail advertising is used for the Crayola-branded products. Advertising for IBM in Canada is done by Ogilvy & Mather Canada.
