XEROX TO LAUNCH NEW DESKTOP LASER PRINTER
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based Xerox Corp. says it will attempt to bridge the gap between low-speed ink jet printers and high-end production color systems by launching a full-featured desktop laser printer later this year. Called the DocuPrint C55, the new product will be targeted at network office work groups. Features on the new machine will include: ImageFix, which corrects poor-quality images; Fax-Friendly Black, which converts color into black and white for faxing or copying; Automatic Transparency Detection, which optimizes overhead transparencies and a Web server that allows for easy installation and access to printer software through the Internet. To be launched in North America in June, the printer will be the first in a new generation of color laser printers and the flagship of a new Xerox line. Print advertising for the new printer will begin appearing in July in Canadian and U.S.-based industry periodicals. The ads will be handled by Xerox's U.S. agency. Environics Communications Inc. of Toronto is doing Canadian PR for the printer.
