LOTUS STANDS ON GUARD

Lotus Development Canada has kicked off a PR and advertising campaign touting the security of the company's products. A print ad featuring a shot of a snarling guard dog above a stylized Lotus Security Seal appeared in papers across the country this week. The newly-created seal will appear in all future ads for Lotus Notes and Domino in Canada. Lotus Canada business partners will also be able to use the seal on their Web sites. Lotus launched the security campaign because the company believes businesses must begin to focus more on security issues. Peter Carrescia, Lotus Canada's national technology development manager, says people need to beware of strangers looking through important information on private Web sites and intranets. Lotus Domino and Notes include a number of security features such as encryption and an integrated, secure directory with users, passwords and public keys. Through its security seal campaign, Lotus is hoping to remind users of the built-in security features. Advertising for Lotus Canada is handled by Ogilvy & Mather. Cohn & Wolfe is conducting the security PR campaign. The three businesses are based in Toronto.
