SWEDEN TO CONSIDER DROPPING AD TAX

A government-appointed group in Sweden has recommended that the present tax on advertisements be abolished. Currently, daily newspapers pay a 4% surcharge on their ads while other publications pay 11%. However, ads carried on new media such as CD-ROMs are not subject to tax at all. In addition, it is not possible to put a tax on ads in publications sold in Sweden but printed in other European countries. The recommendation will be presented to the cabinet in May.
